Provides database management support for the university’s Oracle databases including database design, installation, maintenance, security, backup, and recovery; manages interactions between distributed databases; and serves as liaison to vendors. A defined career path exists. Based on experience, the successful candidate will be hired into one of two levels of professional opportunity: Assistant Database Administrator or Database Administrator and will be given the opportunity to progress through the career path by achieving defined performance objectives once employed. Duties listed above are for Assistant Database Administrator. Additional duties required for Database Administrator position.

Bachelor’s degree in an IT related field required. An associate’s degree in an IT related field plus at least three years of IT related experience may be substituted. At least two years of application development or database administration experience using a relational database in a UNIX/Linux environment preferred. An understanding of data security, integrity and consistency; familiarity with backup, recovery, database utilities, tuning and performance monitoring; experience designing relational data structures; and excellent communication and customer relations skills are also preferred. Student experience will be considered.
