Public Safety Advisor – Technical Sales Executive

The Sector Public Safety Advisor plays a critical role in supporting the company’s sales and revenue goals. The ideal candidate will leverage their Law Enforcement network and experience to open doors at County and Local Agencies to share technology that builds community trust, protects first responders, and helps law enforcement do their job more effectively.

The Sector Public Safety Advisor will be responsible for traveling to meet with current and potential clients, discover technology needs and pain points, and craft a path forward with new and upgraded technology and services while navigating challenging stakeholder politics and departmental budgetary constraints. This position requires a high level of organization with discernment for the best communication tactics appropriate to the customer, the project and the sales cycle. The Advisor will clearly understand the next steps to win the deal and execute on those next steps with vigor.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Advisory Needs-based Selling

  • Responsible for identifying, prospecting, communicating with and selling to County Sheriffs Offices, Municipal Police Departments, Local Fire Departments, and Campus Public Safety Departments.
  • Build territory by lead generation through cold calls, discovery meetings, referral gathering, trade shows and conferences.
  • Build territory by working with existing customers to grow their relationships and solutions with Sector.
  • Manage the territory by demonstrating success in navigating the different phases of a client advisory relationship – Discovery, Stakeholder Identification, Quoting, Presenting with Demonstration of Capability, and Obtaining Commitment.
  • Develop and implement strategic sales and revenue plan for the territory, including bookings, opportunity generation, revenue quotas and financial objectives.
  • Provide overall sales and business development activities in the Iowa and Nebraska region.
  • Proficiency in the use of CRM systems to manage the sales pipeline and track customer interactions.
  • Be passionate about the law enforcement industry and its challenges.
  • Keep up-to-date with industry trends and developments to ensure that our products and services remain relevant and effective.
  • Build strong relationships with law enforcement and other public safety-oriented agencies and industry experts to stay ahead of the curve.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • 5-7 years of sales and/or advisory experience in a technical sales role, preferably in the public safety industry.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders in a team environment.
  • Established a successful track record working remotely and independently.
  • Experience using CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce, Pipedrive, Zoho, NetSuite) to manage the sales pipeline and track customer interactions.
  • Highly effective in engaging the entire sales process – green-field prospecting, building pipeline, moving opportunities through the sales cycle, proposing, presenting, discussing, and navigating various decision-makers and stakeholders to the win.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong focus on accuracy and completeness.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
  • Excellent verbal, written, communication and presentation skills.
  • Expected travel for this job is 60-70% and includes corporate business meetings, tradeshows and conferences, sales events, and customer meetings.
  • The ideal candidate will be located in the Des Moines Metro area.
  • A demonstrable tendency to see the solution through a cloud of challenges.

CAPABILITIES

Must be a Sales Challenger. You are willing to challenge the status quo adoption of technology solutions in public safety – on prem vs cloud, video vs no video, budgetary constraints, legacy brands vs new brands, established service providers vs new energetic service providers and automatic ticketing vs no automatic ticketing.

Must be a Relationship-Oriented Person. You are charismatic, articulate and honest. You must be able to create, foster and sustain long-term relationships with co-workers and customers.

Must be Articulate. You are capable of communicating value propositions in a clear and succinct manner to establish rapport and become the subject matter expert and technology advisor.

Must have the ability to grasp and explain technical subjects. You must be able to take complex client technical concerns and break them down into simple components to drive solution-based sales. Technology industry experience is not required, but the desire to learn is a must.

Must be a Creative Problem Solver. You have the ability to overcome obstacles endemic to enterprise sales – funding, timing, adoption of technology, etc. You tailor your message to the audience.

Must be a Team Player. You know how to work in a fast-paced environment where daily obligations may change dramatically day-to-day. Sector team members are mission-oriented and are proactive in their needs to be successful.
