The Sr. Systems Engineer, Web Operations designs, implements and maintains systems and infrastructure hosted within AWS and limited on-premises systems. This includes capacity planning, load testing, cost management, responding to system outages, vulnerability mitigation and supporting tasks, such as DNS and SSL management, as required.
This position is responsible for supporting Meredith’s public-facing internet properties as well as numerous backend solutions for development teams, clients and third parties.

Leads systems integration projects delivering on time, cost effective solutions that meet functional specifications.
Performs and coordinates effective implementation of virtual infrastructure.
Evaluates and installs new software releases, system upgrades, and patches.
Plans and performs appropriate procedures, documentation, inventory assessment, and other tasks related to IT.
Maintains, monitors, analyzes system components and makes recommendations regarding system and application health.
Works with a team to automate management tasks, streamline processes, and perform standard administrative functions as needed.
Provides customer training and support on high-level technical problems without assistance.
Plays a lead role in developing, implementing, and maintaining disaster recovery plans.
Performs inventory and provides accounting for Meredith Corporation’s systems including installed software and server operating systems.
Conducts software and hardware evaluations, provides technical analysis and implements systems to meet Meredith Corporation’s IT goals.
Maintains a strategic IT plan to meet the requirements of Meredith Corporation’s overall growth plan to be reviewed on a regular basis with Management and adjusted as necessary.
Undertakes and manages the research and improvement of Meredith Corporation’s Systems.
Maintains vendor relationships.
Maximizes system availability and performance through fault-tolerant configuration, efficient architecture and proactive server monitoring.
Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements | All must be met to be considered.
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or related field, or equivalent training and/or experience.
Three to five years of experience with Linux web hosting systems integration and management in the corporate environment.
Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Must be proficient in Linux operating systems and cloud operating environments.
Advanced proficiency in the following:
Cloud Computing – AWS (EC2, S3, VPC, RDS, CloudFormation, ECS, Beanstalk)
Server operating systems (Amazon Linux 2, RedHat, CentOS, Ubuntu)
Load balancing technologies (AWS ELB/ALB, HAProxy, F5)
Web servers (Apache, Nginx)
Web content management systems (WordPress, Drupal)
Source code management/deploy tools (Git, Jenkins, GitHub, CircleCI)
Enterprise performance and event monitoring systems (NewRelic, Splunk)
Strong understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, routing, switching and other related networking technologies.
Strong understanding of a scripting or programming language (bash, python, go, perl, etc)
Strong knowledge of a configuration management system (AWS CloudFormation, Ansible, Puppet, Chef, etc)
Strong understanding of the fundamentals of container-based software deployments
Thorough knowledge of server and system administration best practices.
Strong knowledge of client/server architecture.
Ability to develop IT policies and procedures.
Ability to maintain professionalism, good attitude and appropriate behavior with all Meredith personnel and clients.
