Senior Systems Engineer – Enterprise Infrastructure

The Senior Systems Engineer is responsible for resolving escalated service issues, coaching other engineers to resolutions, engineering and implementing complex projects, and maintaining and overseeing the on premise, co-located and cloud-based compute and storage infrastructure utilized across the Meredith Corporation enterprise.

This is a key position within the IT department and will be called upon to resolve the highest-level technical issues. The incumbent works in a team environment and lends experience and mentorship to teammates.

The Senior Systems Engineer is responsible for obtaining and maintaining technical training and any certifications necessary for continued growth and success.

Supports, resolves, monitors and troubleshoots hardware and software problems.

Leads systems integration projects delivering on time, cost effective solutions that meet functional specifications.

Performs and coordinates effective installations of servers (physical and virtual) and advanced operating systems.

Evaluates and installs new software releases, system upgrades, and patches.

Plans and performs appropriate procedures, documentation, inventory assessment, and other tasks related to IT.

Maintains, monitors, analyzes system components and makes recommendations regarding system and application health.

Works with a team to automate management tasks, streamline processes, and perform standard administrative functions as needed.

Provides customer training and support on high-level technical problems without assistance.

Plays a lead role in developing, implementing, and maintaining disaster recovery plans.

Performs inventory and provides accounting for Meredith Corporation’s systems including installed software and server operating systems.

Conducts software and hardware evaluations, provides technical analysis and implements systems to meet Meredith Corporation’s IT goals.

Maintains a strategic IT plan to meet the requirements of Meredith Corporation’s overall growth plan to be reviewed on a regular basis with Management and adjusted as necessary.

Undertakes and manages the research and improvement of Meredith Corporation’s Systems.

Maintains vendor relationships.

Maximizes system availability and performance through fault-tolerant configuration, efficient architecture and proactive server monitoring.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or related field, or equivalent training and/or experience.

Experience:

Three to five years of experience with enterprise class Storage devices, UNIX, Linux, and Windows operating systems integration and management in the corporate environment.

Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Must be proficient in Linux and Windows operating systems and virtual server operating environments.

Advanced proficiency in the following:

Enterprise Storage appliances (NetApp, Hitachi, etc.)
SAN switching (Cisco, Brocade, etc.)
Server operating systems (e.g. RedHat, CentOS, Ubuntu, Windows)
Virtualization technologies (e.g. Vmware ESX, Nutanix)
Source code management/deploy tools (e.g. git, Apache Ant, Jenkins, GitHub, VSTS, CloudFormation)
Enterprise performance and event monitoring systems (e.g. Zabbix, Nagios, NewRelic, Splunk)
Server security/hardening (e.g. CIS Benchmarks)
Audit Remediation (e.g. PCI, SOX)
Cloud-based computing (e.g. Azure, Amazon Web Services)
Strong understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, routing, switching and other related networking technologies.

Thorough knowledge of server and system administration best practices.

Strong knowledge of client/server architecture.

Ability to develop IT policies and procedures.

Ability to maintain professionalism, good attitude and appropriate behavior with all Meredith personnel and clients.
