Senior Business Data Analyst – Microstrategy

The Senior Business Data Analyst reviews, analyzes and evaluates complex data reporting needs and requirements.  This position works closely with key business leaders to understand complex reporting needs.  These needs are then translated into system requirements that include report formats, structures, and key data elements.  This position documents business requirements and needs and generates associated business solutions that satisfy Meredith’s needs.  The Senior Business Data Analyst assists the IT staff in understanding the operational need for the data, develops and manages the plan to accomplish these needs.    In addition, this position acts as the functional subject matter expert of the data as well as how it is collected and reported within the organization.

 

Must maintain a strong understanding of the MicroStrategy business intelligence application and Meredith business applications best practices.  This will require working knowledge of Meredith Sales, ERP, and Operational delivery systems.  The position is required to maintain a thorough understanding of Meredith business demands and the information needed by key business leaders.

Data Consistency & Governance: Drive the accuracy/integrity of collection and measurement data through validation, testing, and documentation. Contribute to standardization and governance efforts.  This position will own the data specifications development and documentation efforts and will work collaboratively with the application analysts and engineers. This positions will assist with the development and documentation of  data collection standards for all new development efforts/site functions.
Key partner to business leaders: Partner with key business leader to gather requirements and prepare business specifications.  Translates requirements into data requirements and business functionality.
Meredith Business Knowledge: Understands the long-term business objectives and suggests strategies to meet those objectives.  Introduces innovation to business processes through technology if appropriate.

Reporting & Analytics: Work with our Business Analysts to identify and help develop new metrics and report creation to provide new insights. Pursue enhanced data capture and seek new sources of data. Help automate reporting to monitor important metrics, build prototypes, and deliver requirements to development teams.
Continued Data Guidance: Communicates the business strategies, goals, and needs to the application development team and serves as business interface to manage expectations and define business satisfaction metrics.
Collaboration and Communication: Conducts meetings on all levels of management for purposes of presentations, reviews, approvals, etc.

QA: Ensure the complete and continuous adherence to the instrumentation standards to maintain a high reliability of the data that flows into our data warehouse and reporting environment.  Understand the testing life cycle of application development to ensure that the data collection and reporting specs have been implemented as requested.  Utilize software to continuously track the data requirements, the sources of the data and how the data and reports are used by the business.
Mentoring: Provides guidance to and assists in training less experienced Associate Business Analyst and Business Analyst. May act as a functional leader.

III. Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements | All must be met to be considered.

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Business Administration required, or equivalent education and experience.

 

Experience:

Minimum four years experience working in a Data Analyst, Reporting Analyst, Business Analyst, Superuser, or other technical capacity understanding, documenting, and communicating business requirements.

Minimum two years experience in work with business leaders understanding complex business problems and designing or implementing solutions.

 

Required:

Strong MicroStrategy BI skills.

Ability to express complex technical concepts effectively, both verbally and in writing.

Strong analytical and problem solving skills.

Ability to work well with people from different disciplines with varying degrees of technical knowledge.

Must be highly-motivated, self-directed and have ability to handle multiple tasks/projects simultaneously.

Previous experience with complex active system requirement definitions.

Excellent direct customer contact skills.

Excellent presentation and facilitation skills.

Ability to meet deadlines and manage workload.

 

Preferred:

Oracle EBS applications skills – Receivables, Projects accounting, Web ADI

Kofax / Markview knowledge.

Salesforce CRM Application and Cognos reporting skills.
