The AEL Summer Internship Program offers an immersive real-world experience, closely replicating the career journey of an American Equity professional. Each intern will contribute to meaningful, hands-on projects that drive measurable business outcomes, gaining valuable experience along the way.

Interns will also have the opportunity to present their project work to company leaders, network with executives, and participate in educational programs designed to support their personal and professional growth. Additionally, interns will engage in community service projects and social events, building connections with fellow interns and the broader American Equity team.

General Purpose Of The Job

The intern supports projects to enhance and modernize American Equity’s digital portals, which service hundreds of thousands of customers daily. The role works on cross-functional teams that help gather requirements, design and develop high-end web and mobile-responsive websites and ultimately deliver our customers an amazing digital experience. The intern will gain real-work work experience and opportunities to interact with the business partners in the financial industry to build and improve current processes.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Develops front-end portal websites using React.
  • Works with stakeholders to understand business requirements that are translated into technical solutions
  • Assists in the design of user interactions on web pages.
  • Codes, tests, and debugs new and existing web applications.
  • Collaborates across time zones via video conferencing and software such as MS Teams, Jira, and GitHub.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education And/Or Experience

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.

Certificates, Licenses, Professional Designations

Web Development Certification a plus.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Knowledge of fundamental front-end languages such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Working knowledge of REACT and SQL.
  • Experience in cloud infrastructure in AWS (such as AWS App Services, S3, DynamoDB, CloudWatch and CloudFormation) is a plus.
  • Good analytical skills with ability to research issues and products.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills with ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and successfully with employees, customers, and other outside third parties.
