Storage and Virtualization Engineer

Job Description

Primary responsibility of this position is functioning as the IWD IT storage and virtualization engineer. As a member of the Systems Engineering team your responsibilities include but not limited to, plan, design, implement and management of the VMware ESXi and VMware Horizon as well as all of the infrastructure behind those environments. Physical environment of responsibility includes NetApp SAN and Cisco UCS Chassis and Blade Servers.

Monitor, manage, and report on storage and server capacity needs to IT Leadership. Create and manage VMware ThinApps and AppVols to deliver a consistent end user application experience. Manage VMware WorkSpace One to ensure all applications and services are readily available for deployment. Perform testing and configuration of Dell WYSE and other thin client devices.

Manage and maintain the Microsoft and Linux Server environments including installs, setups, and patching. Manage backups of all physical and virtual servers as well as offsite backup data replication. Manage GlobalSCAPE EFT system for secure file transfer.

Provide advanced troubleshooting as needed to support operations of the agency.

This function is to provide advanced troubleshooting and support for critical infrastructure systems that support agency staff. These tasks will involve analyzing known issues and providing support to other INO staff to troubleshoot problems and provide a solution.

This function will focus on and require expertise in the areas of infrastructure storage systems, virtual infrastructure systems such as VMWare, VMWare Horizon, Windows servers, Linux servers, and other infrastructure support systems as needed.

Work closely with INO leadership to develop process improvement, modernization, automation, and other large scale infrastructure improvement projects.

The primary function of this task will be to research and analyze systems for deployment to ensure these systems are procured and deployed in the most effective and efficient way possible.

This task will focus primarily on storage and related infrastructure systems, VMWare environments, NetApp Environments, Windows and Linux servers, and other infrastructure systems as needed.

Develop and deliver road maps and other strategic documentation for the planning of and deployment of virtual infrastructure including but not limited to storage systems, VMWare systems, and server environments.

This function is to provide planning and strategic information to be used for infrastructure system planning, deployment, maintenance, and modernization to be used for delivering the goals of the agency.

419 PC/LAN Server
6 months’ experience, 12 semester hours, or a combination of both in the following:

Generating, testing and maintaining LAN/server system software
Installing and maintaining PC hardware and software
Creating data sets using a variety of software packages
Combining and converting data sets from different formats and sources to be used in spreadsheets, databases, and graphics software packages
Producing final data summaries and reports using standard statistical procedures
Producing final tables and graphics using various software packages
Minimum Qualification Requirements
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university and experience equal to three years of fulltime work: operating a multi-job computer; installing, operating and coordinating computer based networks; installing/maintaining database management systems; developing business application processes; developing/operating system programs; installing/maintaining personal computers, Local Area Networks and/or servers; managing operating systems; developing/delivering information management training; providing Information Technology (IT) customer service; or designing/administering Internet sites;

OR
an equivalent combination of education and experience substituting the completion of an approved curriculum/specialized training program developed and implemented by or in cooperation with state government; or eighteen semester hours of accredited post high school course work in one of the specialty areas listed above; or certification by an authorized educational institution/major computer or software producer in an area directly related to one of the computer specialty areas listed above, for the required education;
OR
an equivalent combination of education and experience substituting one year of the required experience for thirty semester hours of the required education;
OR
employees with current continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes experience equal to six months of full-time work as an Information Technology Specialist 4.
