Farm Bureau Financial Services is seeking a strong team player for an Application Developer position that supports our corporate systems applications.  If you can provide technical support and best practices in the design, development, and deployment of distributed and mainframe applications, we are looking for you!

This position will fulfill distributed development needs, utilizing Informatica, SQL, and JAVA, as well as crossing over to lend support with mainframe development needs, utilizing COBOL. As a member of the Corporate Systems team your primary responsibilities will include small enhancement and production support development work with vendor and in-house written applications, as well as being part of an on-call rotation.  You will perform duties and tasks to support full systems life cycle management that will include analysis, technical requirements, design, coding, unit testing, and implementation of systems and applications software. In this position you will focus on delivering data and processes to our users in a timely fashion, as well as resolving urgent production issues.

What You’ll Do:

  • Analyze, evaluate, and oversee the development, implementation and maintenance of systems and applications. Develop new, and maintain existing, applications of low to medium complexity – including developing application code, testing completed applications, and developing required documentation.
  • Conduct research and maintain high level of knowledge in systems software/hardware to ensure operations and implementations are of the highest quality.  Assist the business with process improvements where needed.
  • Participate in special projects by playing a technical role in projects, including design, development, testing, through the delivery phases.
  • Give and receive guidance and direction to/from development staff on technical matters.

What does it take to join our team?

  • College degree or equivalent plus three years relevant experience. 3 years of experience in insurance or financial data processing preferred.
  • Confidentiality requirements/expectations related to banking, treasury, accounting, employment, and other sensitive data.
  • Knowledge of data handling methods, development techniques, and one or more development programming languages, including Informatica, SQL, Java, SSRS, with Cobol as a plus.
  • Strong analytical/conceptual thinking and detail-oriented skills are required.
  • Comfortable in a team environment with changing priorities and time pressures. Ability to work independently and as part of a cross organizational team.
  • A customer focused mindset and strong communication skills are required, including business professional writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Must understand the inter-relationship between business and technology needs.
  • Experience working in SCRUM and an agile work environment is a plus.
  • Understanding of SDLC procedures and adherence to change management rules is necessary.
