Network Engineer I

Compensation & Benefits

Salaried, FLSA exempt position.  Starting wage is based upon individual qualifications.  Pay Range for the Network Engineer I is $67,376-$92,402.
Potential career growth to Network Engineer II. Pay Range is $78,369-$107,478.
Typical work schedule is Monday-Friday 7:30am – 4:30pm with an hour lunch.
Travel is required occasionally within the Midwest.  Performs on-call duties as assigned.
Remote work is available, position does require on-site presence.
Required to live within a 20 minute drive time from the CFU office building. Residency within Cedar Falls city limits is encouraged.

Responsibilities
Extensive leeway is granted for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative.   Candidates must be able to demonstrate reliability and proactive thinking.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Installs, operates and maintains switches, routers and servers.

Provides technical customer support services to CFU subscribers of commercial and residential communication products as well as wholesale service providers.

Programs and troubleshoots computer network system including tools for maintenance and other applications.

Evaluates and researches new products and technologies and provides recommendations and justifications for their use.

Maintains knowledge of application software being used to provide support to subscribers.

Creates and maintains comprehensive documentation of all networks. Establishes work procedures and processes that supports company and departmental standards, procedures, and strategic directives.

Maintains a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner that promotes positive relations with customers, co-workers and management; Recognizes team needs by encouraging involvement and reviewing results.

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge:  Working knowledge of:
 Operation, setup, and maintenance of Cisco or Juniper routers and switches
 BGP, OSPF, spanning tree and multi-layer switching
 TCP/IP-based services such as DNS, DHCP, HTTP, FTP, SSH, SMTP, and TFTP
 Thorough understanding of the OSI network model and Ethernet networks
 Linux servers and related software
 Network monitoring and security utilities, SNMP and Netconf preferred
 Python, PHP, shell or Perl programming languages preferred
 MySQL database administration, SQL, SOAP, REST, and XML preferred
 Fiber optic and Ethernet test equipment preferred

Abilities:  Provide friendly customer service; multi-task and communicate effectively dealing with internal and external customers; utilize critical thinking and problem solving techniques; effectively manage stress; carry out work assignments as instructed; utilize computer databases and software; maintain accurate records; establish and maintain cooperative work relationships with those contacted in the course of work; Must be able to respond promptly to emergencies.

Education: A bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems or Computer Science; Work experience may be substituted for education requirement.

Experience: Two years in network administration or related field.

Certifications/License: CCNA or equivalent preferred.
