Roundabouts, Not Traffic Lights: A Case Study on AI Governance

APR. 7 / 11:25 AM - 12:05 PM / CASE STUDY

About

AI governance doesn’t have to be a traffic jam. Using real enterprise stories, live audience polling, and Iowa’s favorite traffic systems as metaphors, this session shows how governance can function like shared infrastructure—enabling safe, scalable AI adoption.

Takeaways

1. “It’s dangerous to go alone, take this.” Avoid reinventing the wheel by learning about existing governance frameworks and how to build a cross-functional alliance.

2. “Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should.” Define the *why* behind AI governance to reframe it from control and compliance to enablement.

3. “What would you say you…do here?” Walk away with communication techniques, training examples, and visual metaphors that are designed to help teams understand and adopt an AI governance approach.

Speaker

Jeanna Schoonmaker

Senior Director, AI & Analytics
Insight Global

Jeanna Schoonmaker is a Senior Director of AI and Analytics at Insight Global, a staffing firm headquartered in Atlanta with a satellite office in Des Moines. She has extensive experience in data analysis and data science, and in building and scaling applied machine learning systems in production environments. She leads teams spanning model development, data and AI engineering, and AI enablement, supporting both large enterprises and nonprofit organizations. Her background includes applied statistics, machine learning, natural language processing, and psychology.

Jeanna brings a pragmatic perspective shaped by years of hands-on work building systems that support real business decisions, influence behavior, and drive measurable outcomes.

She has strong opinions about dashboards that lie and code that runs perfectly on a laptop but mysteriously fails in production—and she has learned all of them the hard way.
