The Foundations of Kubernetes
Central Iowa Java Users Group
CIJUG June Meetup is Thursday 6/20 at 5:30pm! Join virtually for a presentation from Ben Pratt of Source Allies on “The Foundations of Kubernetes”.
Kubernetes is one of the more polarizing tools in the IT space today. Every week, it seems like there is another blog post about how Kubernetes saved our company or how Kubernetes ruined my life.
The Kubernetes website also doesn’t do itself any favors. While the documentation is encyclopedic & a fantastic reference, anyone curious about Kubernetes is met with a bewildering array of terminology & nautical puns. You’re either going to be sailing the seven seas or be washed ashore. However, if we strip away much of the jargon and infrastructure concerns, what we’ll find is a simple core design. Kubernetes isn’t a container orchestrator: it’s a CRUD API with a database!
In this presentation, we’ll build up our understanding of Kubernetes by starting with this core concept. We’ll create our own version of Kubernetes, and we’ll slowly add more lingo until we’re deploying applications to a real cluster. Along the way, we’ll look at several Java code examples.
So whether you’re learning by choice or by necessity, come aboard and join the CIJUG crew as we explore the Foundations of Kubernetes. This presentation targets developers of any skill level – no Kubernetes experience is expected.
