BYD America
Micheal Austin received his undergraduate and masters degrees in Engineering from BYU in 1991. He worked for Motorola 15 years, where he was senior ODM director in the Corporate Integrated Supply Chain Operations. He was selected as Motorola’s Distinguished Innovator in 1997 and holds 21 US patents. Micheal’s significant Asian international business experience proved invaluable when he took the top position in BYD’s America’s group – the first Caucasian Vice President of BYD Ltd, a Chinese company listed on the Hong Kong exchange (1211) with over 140,000 employees. Micheal is responsible for New Energy Business development for BYD America – BYD manufactures Electric Vehicles, Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicles, solar panels, LED indoor and outdoor lighting, and break-through, long-lasting environmentally-friendly batteries.
In an attempt to solve one environmental issue, we must be careful not to create new ones. This presentation will discuss technologies that do not require an environmental trade-off (such as mercury-laced, high-efficiency lighting or toxic-battery chemistries use to improve solar or wind output). BYD’s technology focus is to develop solutions that are fabricated “green”, produced off-grid, and powered off-grid. These solutions include green villages, solar and wind farms coupled with environmentally-friendly energy storage and extremely efficient, pure electric and hybrid electric vehicles.
