On Tuesday, November 10, 2009, the Technology Association of Iowa presented the second annual Iowa Women of Innovation event, an awards presentation that elevates and celebrates today's extraordinary women. The evening was dedicated to recognizing nine women who are leaders in technology, science and engineering.
Keynote speaker Dr. Lilia Abron, Founder and CEO of PEER Consultants, addressed the crowd of 250 attendees. In her presentation, Dr. Abron inspired the audience by discussing the innovations that are happening all around us.
Janet Phipps Burkhead, Attorney at McKee, Voorhees & Sease and Brigadier General with the Iowa Army National Guard, emceed the evening.
TAI received over 70 nominations with this new, Iowa tradition. Finalists and winners were selected by Dr. Lilia Abron, Founder and CEO of PEER Consultants; David Sengpiel, Senior Investment Manager at Iowa Farm Bureau Federation; Gary Scholten, Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer at Principal Financial Group; Janet Phipps Burkhead, Attorney at McKee, Voorhees & Sease and Brigadier General with the Iowa Army National Guard; and Michael Sadler, Managing Director at Qwest - Iowa.
