Purpose
The Technology Association of Iowa’s priorities are to:
- Enhance access to talent and develop the future technology workforce.
- Provide connections to business, capital, academic and government resources.
- Promote a business climate that will advance industry growth.

Program Area 1: Association Management/Operations
Goal 1: Generate sufficient revenues to support the annual operation and management of the Technology Association of Iowa to achieve its purpose as designated by the Board of Directors.
Objective 1.1 Funding: Achieve and maintain annual revenues of $500,000 in 2008 and $800,000 in 2009.
Objective 1.2 Revenue Diversification: Expand and diversify revenues to include: Successful completion of $1 million capital campaign; public and private foundation grants; memberships; and self- sustaining programs and events. Use annual reserves to create a financial buffer of 1.5 times annual operations by October 2011.
Objective 1.3 Financial Governance: Ensure budget model incorporates best accounting practices and financial reporting by October 2009.
Objective 1.4 Staffing: Recruit and retain sufficient professional administrative and operational staff to fully execute the strategic plan/mission of TAI by October 2006.
Objective 1.5 Administration: Create and retain an active, aggressive, and innovative Board of Directors and Executive Committee by October 2006.
Program Area 2: TAI Organization
Goal 2: TAI will achieve broad based support, endorsements and recognition as Iowa’s umbrella organization for Technology.
Objective 2.1: Build a functioning integrated umbrella organization representing all Iowa technology industry and advocacy groups by October 2010.
Program Area 3: Workforce
Goal 3: Enhance access to talent and develop the future technology workforce. Enhance the number of IT jobs and students to fill them.
Objective 3.1 Education: TAI will be recognized as the education resource link for members by October 2009.
Objective 3.2 Workforce Development: Become the recognized statewide leader in workforce development through the successful deployment and expansion of HyperStream: The Tech Hub for Iowa Students. Objective: Increase HyperStream participation to be in 150 schools by 2010.
Objective 3.3 Recruitment and Retention: Develop a comprehensive workforce recruitment/retention plan by.October 2010.
Objective 3.4 Training: Sponsor technical professional certifications by October, 2010.
Program Area 4: Technology Community/Connectivity
Goal 4: Provide connectivity to business, capital, academic, and government resources.
Objective 4.1 Marketing/Public Relations/Communications: Develop and implement comprehensive sustainable marketing, public relations, and communications programs to create awareness and support for Iowa’s technology industry and TAI member successes.
Objective 4.2 Membership: Create an active membership base that supports Iowa’s high-tech industry including suppliers, purchasers, users, and influencers of technology. Objective: Grow membership revenues and achieve 400 members, expanding geographic representation into more rural and currently under-represented areas by 2011.
Objective 4.3 Membership Involvement: Create process or mechanism to involve our members in achieving objectives and programs by October 2009.
Objective 4.3 Networking: Provide networking, business connections, and legislative engagement opportunities for technology executives by October 2007.
Objective 4.4 Academia: Implement a plan to bridge technology transfer gaps between high-tech Industry and Academia by October 2010.
Objective 4.5 Capital Access: TAI will become a strategic link between technology businesses, bankers, select angel funds and venture capitalists by October 2007.
Objective 4.6 Business Development (Networking/B2B Connectivity): Build bridges between Iowa technology businesses and traditional businesses and be recognized as a business referral network among member organizations by October 2009.
Objective 4.7 Business Development (Global Connectivity): Assist Iowa technology businesses in participating in global opportunities by October 2010.
Objective 4.8 Preferred Vendor Affinity Programs: Become a group buyer of products/services used by membership by October 2009.
Program Area 5: Business Climate
Goal 5: Promote a business climate that will advance high-tech industry growth.
Objective 5.1 Environment: Create a positive growth environment for the technology industry in Iowa and advocate for a vigorous Iowa entrepreneurial ecosystem (tech transfer, capital) by October 2009.
Objective 5.2 Lobbying: Develop an influential lobbying presence and public policy program to ensure and accelerate the success of Iowa’s high-tech industry by October 2009.
Objective 5.3 Green: Develop “green” strategies in order to reduce industry footprint in Iowa through the promotion and incorporation of environmental impact improvement principles among industry participants by October 2010.
Objective 5.3 Iowa reputation: Promote Iowa so it becomes recognized among state, regional and national sources as a successful place for technology by October, 2009.
